ELIZABETH & CHRIS
Elopement in Oia
The village of Oia is the epitome of what Santorini is. Charming, picturesque and sophisticated this is where a visitor can find luxurious hotels, exquisite restaurants, art galleries as well as a wide range of shops in its narrow alleys. The typical architecture of the houses carved in the volcanic rocks, the stunning views from the edge of the caldera and the world renowned sunsets make Oia one of the most photogenic villages in Santorini, while a wedding in Oia is popular with couples that want to exchange vows in the most picture perfect location.
Elizabeth and Chris live in Los Angeles but decided to elope in Santorini and Oia in particular after a trip to Turkey. There are plenty of options for Santorini wedding venues suitable for an intimate wedding, but Elizabeth and Chris’ wedding in Oia took place at Aspaki Exclusive Suites.
Situated right in front of the famous three blue domes of Oia, the hotel has wonderful cliffside views over the Aegean Sea. After the end of the ceremony I set off with the couple for our portrait session during the golden hour (the couple of hours just before sunset when the light is the best for photos). We had lots of time available till sunset which gave us the chance to visit several different locations around the village. Oia is like a playground for a Santorini wedding photographer like me, who loves using architectural forms in his photos and puts so much emphasis on the ideas of symmetry and balance.
I’d like to thank Elizabeth and Chris for being such a relaxed and cooperative couple. It’s because of their contribution that their photos look like a fashion shoot making hard to believe that this was a real couple and not professional models.
